Cuddalore, Oct 7 (UNI) Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) founder leader S Ramadoss today said that he would lead an agitation if the Tamil Nadu Government was making any attempt to acquire fertile land in the nine village Panchayats near Marakkanam for setting up power plant.
Addressing the people, during his visit to the area to hear people's view, he said the concept of his visit was protection of people and their lands. People had informed him that they would not let the Government to acquire the land and were ready to die to protect their land.
Assuring the people that he would not allow the Government to acquire the fertile land for setting up power plant, Dr Ramadoss said that his statement might force someone to say that he was hindering industrial development. ''I am not against industrial development or power generation. Let the Government acquire barren lands for the purpose,'' he said. What is the use of industrial development after spoiling the livelihood of the people, he wondered.
Dr Ramadoss also said that the Chief Minister had already stated in the Assembly that fertile lands would not be acquired for any purpose.
He called up on the Presidents of the nine village Panchayats to shed political differences and unite together and adopt a resolution opposing the land acquisition. The PMK would strive to abolish the Land Acquisition Act, he added.
