Plugging helps increase Punjab Mandi Board revenues

Moga, Oct 7 (UNI) Plugging of leakages in the market fee collection has resulted in an increase in the revenue collections of the Punjab Mandi Board.

Disclosing this at a media conference here today Board Chairman Ajmer Singh Lakhowal said that there was an increase of Rs 13 crore in the market fee during the first six months of the current financial year. A total of Rs 143 crore was collected as market fee against Rs 130 crore in the corresponding period of the last financial year.

Mr Lakhowal also disclosed that in the collection of market fee Mansa district was on top with increase of 31.12 per cent. He stated that Mandi Board had taken various steps to check pilferation in the collection of market fee specially in cases of fruits and vegetables.

Similarly there was an equal increase of Rs 13 crore in the Rural Development Fund collected by the state agriculture market committees during the last six months.
