Patna, Oct 7 (UNI) Convenor of National Democratic Alliance(NDA) George Fernandes today claimed that the Nitish Kumar government should have left a long back since it has failed on all fronts during its two-year tenure.

After meeting former MP Anand Mohan in jail here, who was awarded death sentence on October 3 in connection with murder of the then District Magistrate of Goplaganj G Krishnaiya, Mr Fernandes and former MP Arun Kumar told newspersons that the Nitish Kumar government was working with political vendetta.

''Anand Mohan and others convicted in the DM murder case were not terrorists and they are being subjected to all sorts of mental torture in jail,'' he alleged and demanded drastic reforms in jail manuals.

Taking strong exception to the statement of state Home Secretary Afzal Amanullah on identification of 21 cases involving politicians and his announcement that trial of these cases would be conducted in special courts, both leaders remarked that such behaviour is uncalled for from a senior bureaucrat in a democracy. The state home secretary was giving statement as if it was coming from judiciary, they alleged.

''The Nitish Kumar government does not hesitate in branding the political leaders as criminals even before the court gives its judgements,'' they lamented and added that dreaded criminials were still moving scotfree and the government in unable to take stringent action against them.

''We are concerned over the children of those convicted in DM murder case and will explore the ways to protect their interests,'' they maintained.
