66.63 pc voters cast votes in KMC by-election

Kolhapur, Oct 7 (UNI) The by-election to ward No 21 of the Kolhapur Municipal Corporation (KMC) has recorded a turnout of 66.63 per cent, the polling for which was held here today.

There are four candidates in the fray. However, the main tussle is between Congress candidate Tejswinee Ghorpade and Jansurajya Shakti Party candidate Dhiraj Mule. As many as 5,028 voters in the ward exercised their franchise.

The by-election was necessitated due to disqualification of sitting corporator Dhananjay Sawant, whose caste certificate was declared invalid.

The voting was peaceful and without any untoward incident, police and KMC sources said.
