New Delhi, Oct 6 (UNI) Janata Dal (United) today termed the Karnataka imbriglio ''unfortunate'' and said the Janata Dal (S) should have honoured its powersharing pact with the BJP.

''If they (JD(S) had done some agreement, then it should have been honoured,'' Janata Dal (United) General Secretary Shambhu Srivastava told mediapersons when asked about the party's reaction to the tussle of power in Karnataka.

If the agreements between political parties were not honoured, then the results are what is happening today in the state, he said and added that there was a distinct possibility of assembly elections in the state soon.

He said the JD(U) would finalise its strategy in the state after consulting state party leaders and its five MLAs and five MLCs.

Terming this power rotation as ''not being durable,'' he said history has shown that they do not last as anyone who assumes power first does not want to leave it. Except in Jammu and Kashmir, this kind of arrangement has failed everywhere, he pointed out and said this was why no such arrangement was done by JD(U) and BJP in Bihar.

He said power sharing between JD(U) and BJP in Bihar was going on well.
