India to be global power: Mukesh Ambani

Pune Oct 6: Having gained the status of growing economy, India would be among the countries aspiring for global power in near future, Reliance Industries Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh Ambani said. Mr Ambani cited the progress and scientific development which helped the country to attain the status of a world power in the near future.

''Today we have to look ahead to take the country forward to help it rank among the elite nations,'' Mr Ambani said while addressing industrialists, during the presentation ceremony for the H K Fixodia awards.

He presented the awards to the noted ecologist and scientist Madhav Gadgil and Samir Brahmachari for their contributions in the filed of science and technology.

The H K Firodia memorial foundation started to honour india's most outstanding scientists and technocrates twelve years back which has promoted many young talents to make their presence in the top most fraternity of industrialists.

The first award was bestowed on Dr Madhav Gadgil, founder of the Centre for Ecological Science at Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. An eminent biologist and ecologist, he established the country's first Biosphere Reserve and served on the Tiger Task Force constituted by the Prime Minister. He is currently a member of National Tiger Conservation Authority.

The second award was given to Prof Samir K. Brahmachari, Director, Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology (CSIR), Delhi, for in molecular analysis of genetic disorders. Prof.

Brahmachari has received international recognition for his recent findings that human RNA can target critical genes in HIV, preventing its proliferation.
