Chandigarh, Oct 6 (UNI) Haryana Transport Minister Mange Ram Gupta today said agreements with neighbouring states would be finalised soon for increasing the interstate transport operations. This was stated by the Minister while presiding over the review meeting of Commercial Officers of the Haryana Roadways here.

He said 1000 buses would be added to the Haryana Roadways fleet during the 11th Five Year Plan with a view to strengthening the public transport services in the state.

With this increase, the strength of Haryana Roadways fleet would increase from 3500 to 4500 buses, he added.

The Minister said that Haryana Transport Department would soon recruit 1910 conductors and 910 drivers to overcome the shortage of staff in the Haryana Roadways. He said Haryana had already rationalised the passenger tax in the state by lowering it from 60 per cent of the basic fare to 25 per cent for encouraging interstate operations in accordance with the traffic requirements.

The Transport Minister said that new bus stands were being constructed at many places so as to provide all basic amenities to the passengers.
