Guwahati, Oct 05: Alternative energy from algae to regional airlines, real estate for senior citizens to aircraft maintenance, the Assam Government has been flooded with investment proposals by US based entrepreneurs.
Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, who earlier this week returned from the US, hard selling the state to potential entrepreneurs, said he was positive that some of these bold proposals would materialise.
''As some of these entrepreneurs met me for the second time over a span of past six months, I think they are genuinely interested to invest in Assam,'' he said while addressing a news conference here today.
The most daring of all investment proposals came from the Abhay Global which has proposals to create bio fuels from algae. '' Mr Alok Appadurai and Mr Teddy Kurtas met me and they wanted to set algae farms to develop bio fuels and then bio refineries to convert the waste product into chemicals'' he said.
''We are carrying out a feasibility study of the same'' said the Chief Minister.
Another investment proposal was to have a regional airline, which came from Bravia Capital Partners Inc. The entrepreneurs duo Mr Bharat Bhise and Mr Rasik Chopra presented a proposal to Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi to set up the regional airline with its operation base in the North East using the smaller 35-70 seater aircraft.
Mr Gogoi said as they were apprehensive of the security scenario in the state they had requested the state government to take a stake in the air line. ''They have also urged for concession in fuel price as well as a request for an agreement with North Eastern states purchasing a fixed number of seats on each flight.'' With the Ministry of external affairs also joining in to unlock the whole Northeast to the rest of the world, the region is all set to get the much delayed dose of foreign investment.
