Tendulkar, Shahrukh, Hussian burnt in effigy
Bhopal, Oct 5 (UNI) Leaders and workers of the Board of Control for Cricket in India President and Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) today burnt cricketer Sachin Tendulkar in effigy here while alleging that the batsman hurt Hindu sentiments by praising artist Maqbool Fida Hussain who painted deities and 'Bharat Mata' (Mother India) in the nude.
Bollywood actor Shahrukh Khan and painter Maqbool Fida Hussain were also burnt in effigy besides the latter's creations. The protest was organised by the NCP Madhya Pradesh unit's Legal Cell and students' wing. The party's state General Secretary Prem Chawla was among those who took part.
''Khan teamed up with Hussain to create paintings at London and earned Rs 5 crore. Hussain insulted the country by creating a headless painting of Mahatma Gandhi,'' the Cell Chairman Rajkumar Pande and students' wing supremo Prakash Kumar alleged in a statement.
