New Delhi, Oct 5 (UNI) The Supreme Court today directed the Tamil Nadu Government to provide protection to a Ram Bhakt Swami Govinda Ramnujadasa, President International Sri Vaishnava Dharma Samrakshna, when he approaches Madras High Court to file his petition for seeking protection to millions of Ram Bhakts who are facing threat in Tamil Nadu and are living in constant fear.
A bench comprising Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan and Justice R V Raveendran issued the directions on learning that the petition required urgent hearing in the court today.
Advocate General of Tamil Nadu assured the court that adequate protection shall be provided to the petitioner when he approaches the High Court for redressal of his grievance.
The court directed the Tamil Nadu government to provide police protection to the petitioner when he approaches Madras High Court.
Earlier, the petitioner had told the court that he was approaching the Supreme Court directly, envisaging a grave threat to his personal security and safety in the state where the Ram Bhakts are being targetted and attacked. He also criticised the statement made by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi calling Lord Ram a drunkard.
