K'taka approves land for Mangalore SEZ

Bangalore, Oct 5: The Karnataka cabinet today gave its approval for acquisition of 271 acres of government land for the Mangalore Special Economic Zone to be developed by the Mangalore Refineries and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL).

Briefing newsmen here State Primary and Secondary education Minister Basavaraj Horahatti said if some private land was there in the identified area it would be acquired at prevailing market rate.

He said the cabinet said a final decision on the Nandagudi Special Economic Zone, to come up in a 5000 acre area in Bangalore Rural District, would be taken after the report of the High Power committee headed by the Chief Secretary to go into the proposal provided by Maskil Infrastructure Development Corporation.

Similarly the Asian infrastructure Development Corporation had sought 60 days time to come out with the project report on the monorail project planned to supplement the traffic requirement of Bangalore in addition to the Metro rail project.
