Chennai, Oct 5 (UNI) Doha Bank CEO R Seetharaman today said global warming and climate change were redefining the world.

He was addressing a gathering after receiving the ''Lifetime Achievement Award'' conferred on him by Amir Khusro Sangeet Academy after being adjudged the ''Banker of the Year'' at the 2007 Bankers Middle East Industry Awards.

Global Warming and Climate Change were serious global issues and one could not imagine how the world was likely to change, he said.

''Sustainable development is not possible unless you temper your environment,'' Mr Seetharaman said even as he welcomed the nine per cent GDP growth of Indian economy and the FDI reserves touching 260 billion US dollars.

''The FDI reserves and nine per cent GDP are good...fine. But you have to temper your environment to sustain this development,'' he cautioned.

The Doha Bank had a social repsonsibility in this regard and created awareness across the world about global warming.

''We will behave as a good corporate citizen and Doha Bank will be a green bank,'' he said.

Earlier, Eminent Lyricist Vairamuthu, Joint Commissioner of Police (North) M Ravi and Senior IAS Officer R Santhanam felicitated Mr Seetharaman for winning the award for the fifth time.

''It is a proud moment not only for Tamil Nadu, but also for the whole of India,'' they said.
