New Delhi, Oct 5 (UNI) The Delhi Development Authority has closed down the petrol pump situated on NH-24 near the Akshardham Temple as per the recent directions of the Supreme Court.

Disposing of a Special Leave Petition on September 13, the apex Court had directed the DDA to demolish or shift the petrol pump if it was causing inconvenience to the public at large and construct the road expeditiously for smooth running of traffic in the area.

Accordingly, the DDA closed the petrol pump yesterday.

''A decision to close the entry and exit at the petrol pump was taken keeping in view the safety of the public and the orders of Hon'ble Supreme Court. Action is also being taken to take over the possession of the site,''a release said.

The allotment of the petrol pump site already stood cancelled since August, 1997 due to certain violation of terms and conditions of allotment, the release added.
