Coal India looks at overseas coal block to ramp up productions
New Delhi, Oct 5 (UNI) With an aim to cater to the shortfall in its production capacity, Coal India Ltd (CIL) today said it is looking for overseas acquisitions of coal blocks in Australia, Canada and Mozambique.
''We are planning to import coal if domestic production falls short,'' CIL Chairman and Managing Director Partha S Bhattacharyya told reporters on the sidelines of a energy summit here.
CIL at present has 128,000 hectare under its possession but needs another 42,000 hectare to scale up production to meet its targeted 520 million tonne from the current level of 360 million tonne at the end of the 11th plan.
We are looking forward to complete the due diligence process as quickly as possible, he added.
