New Delhi, Oct 5 (UNI) Amid continuing fluid political situation in Karnataka, AICC General Secretary Prithviraj Chavan will meet the party leaders and legislators in Bangalore on Sunday or Monday.
"Mr Chavan's visit is mainly to read the mood of the MLAs and the state leadership," a top Congress Party source told UNI here tonight.
In the recent reshuffle, Mr Chavan was given charge of party affairs in Karnataka.
The Congress Party has not so far taken any formal decision with regard to its stand on Karnataka in the context of no clear political picture emerging.
Congress President Sonia Gandhi will meet the senior party leaders here tomorrow to take stock of the political situation and to define the party's role in the event of the ruling Janata Dal (Secular) parting ways with its coalition partner BJP on the issue of transfer of power.
"As things stand now, the Congress is not in favour of extending any support to the survival of the H D Kumaraswamy government," the source said, adding that "any decision, however, is to be backed by the common wisdom of the partymen on the ground." Mr Chavan, who is also Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office, will have to be here in the capital city tomorrow as Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is hosting an "iftar" party.
He will leave here for Bangalore on Sunday or Monday, depending upon his official assignemnts.
