Chair on consumer law to be set up at National Law School

New Delhi, Oct 5 (UNI) A Chair on Consumer Law and Practice will be set up at National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bangalore.

An agreement to this effect was signed here today between Department of Consumer Affairs and NLSIU.

''A new vista has been opened with this agreement which would be effective in developing and incorporating perspective of academia in the initiatives of the Ministry,'' Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar said.

Consumer welfare and awareness is an area that impinges on the life of every citizen and the Government has been earnestly trying to ensure that these rights are not trampled upon, he added.

The Department of Consumer Affairs will provide an endowment grant of Rs 90 lakh to the NLSIU to meet the annual recurring cost of the Chair and also Rs 15 lakh as cost for setting up the Chair during the first year of the award.

The primary objective of the chair is to act as a think tank for the Research and Policy related issues on consumer law and practice and also develop Consumer Affairs as a distinct subject for study at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
