Srinagar, Oct 5 (UNI) Troops foiled yet another infiltration bid when they gunned down three heavily armed militants in Tangdhar in Jammu and Kashmir today.
This was the fifth infiltration bid in the month of holy Ramadhan and third major encounter in north Kashmir during the past three days.
A defence ministry spokesman said that troops of 16 Bihar guarding the border in Tangdhar sector noticed a group of militants moving in the general area today.
When challenged and asked to surrender the militants opened fire which was retaliated by the troops. All the three infiltrators were killed.
Three AK Rifles, 6 magazines and a large quantity of AK ammunition besides Rs 8000/- Indian Currency, GPS equipment and three rucksacks with warlike equipment were recovered form the possession of slain militants.
Further search of the area is still in progress.
In two major encounters at Tangmarg and Bandipora, three army officers including two Majors and eleven militants were killed during the past three days.
More than a dozens militants were killed after they infiltrated into this side during Ramadhan.
