Van Nistelrooy only Real player celebrating after draw

By Staff

MADRID, Oct 4 (Reuters) Striker Ruud van Nistelrooy was one of the few Real Madrid players celebrating 2-2 draw at Lazio after taking his Champions League tally to 56 goals with his double at the Olympic Stadium.

The Dutch international is now just one goal behind team mate Raul in the all-time list of scorers in the European Cup and one ahead of Chelsea striker Andriy Shevchenko.

''It's the only thing I'm happy about after this game,'' Van Nistelrooy told reporters after the match, yesterday.

''I don't know how I put the first goal in the net. It was an ugly goal and I have to admit I hit the ball almost by accident.

''The second was better and I have to thank Raul for seeing my run and giving me such a good pass.

''But I'm disappointed with the result because we had enough chances to win the game and their goals came more as a result of our mistakes than their good play and that's something we have to sort out.'' Defender Fabio Cannavaro also bemoaned the lapses of concentration that allowed Lazio to twice come from behind to draw the game.

''We lost the ball when we were leading and that made things easier for them,'' said the Italian.

''It was a real shame and we have to forget this game as quickly as possible.

Real are joint top of Group C with Olympiakos on four points and two clear of Lazio. They host the Greek side at the Bernabeu in their next match on October 24.
