Shimla, Oct 4 (UNI) A Himachal Pradesh police officer here has landed himself in trouble after allegedly refusing to act on a complaint filed by a local hotelier, who said his car's front screen had been smashed by an unruly and drunken neighbourer.

Harjit Singh, called up Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Kulwant Singh at about 2330 hrs, complaining that his neighbourer had smashed his car's screen, only to be told that he could not act on the complaint as there was not enough petrol in his mobile vehicle to reach the spot.

After his written complaint in the morning went unattended, the businessman wrote letters to the state DGP, Shimla Deputy Commissioner and SDM, who stepped in to help the harassed hotelier, who said had the police acted on time, they would have arrested the accused from the spot.

Shimla ASP D W Negi, while confirming the incident, said that the alleged inaction by the police personnel has been brought to his notice.

''I have asked ASI Kulwant Singh to explain his conduct. I have also issued directions to the police to investigate the matter and take all necessary action,'' he added.
