Kohima, Oct 4 (UNI) The Nagaland government has condemned the NSCN-IM's declaration on September 28, terming state Principal Secretary of Industries and Commerce Alemtemshi Jamir, also the agriculture production commissioner, as ''anti-people and anti-national''.
A release issued here today by state Principal Secretary C J Ponraj and Home Commissioner Temjen Toy stated, ''It is unfortunate that a senior bureaucrat has been singled out in this manner. In any democratic set-up, bureaucrats have to work with political executives, not by their own choice, but as a part of the government to carry out the policies and programmes.'' A meeting was held here yesterday to discuss the declaration of the NSCN-IM steering committee and council of ministers, in which the outfit declared Mr Alemtemshi Jamir, as ''anti-people and anti-national'' in connection with the publication of a booklet titled ''Bedrock of Naga Society'' by the then Chief Minister S C Jamir.
The meeting resolved that ''to term Mr Alemtemshi Jamir as anti-national and anti-people is not only unacceptable, but also misleading the people.'' ''Mr Alemtemshi Jamir has been one of the exemplary officers who has been sincerely serving the people and the government for the last three decades. Such declaration would demoralise not only him but the state government officers in general who are already working under very difficult circumstances,'' the release stated.
It was unanimously decided to request the state government to take necessary action for immediate withdrawal of the declaration and to ensure protection and security of government employees, it added.
