Modi lays foundation stone for 350 MW power plant in Surat

Surat, Oct 4 (UNI) Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today laid the foundation stone for 350 MW combined cycle gas power plant at Hazira to fill the gap of demand and supply in the state.

Gujarat State Energy Generation Limited (GSEG), which is implementing the project, has plans to expand the power capacity by 1,000 MW in three stages at its existing site situated at Village Mora in Surat district of South Gujarat.

The proposed combined cycle thermal power plant of GSEG will generate power using natural gas, an environment-friendly fuel, with a provision to use liquid fuels in emergencies.

The plant has been built with a vision to fuel new power production by natural gas, which produces more energy at competitive costs.

The project will meet the twin goals of efficiency and emission reduction, said the Chief Minister while laying the foundation stone in Surat.

The Company plans to develop green belt in the plant area itself to promote greenery, Gujarat Minister of Energy and Petrochemical Saurabh Patel said while speaking on the occasion.

BHEL will supply the project on EPC basis and would use GE technology in gas turbine of nine FA machine. The unit of 350 MW will comprise of one gas turbine, one HRSG (Heat Recovery Steam Generator) and one steam turbine. BHEL is committed to complete the project in 27 months. The expected cost of the project is around Rs 1050 crore, which is to be financed through debt and equity, GSEG director D J Pandian said.

The Company has acquired all clearances from the Ministry of Environment and Forests and GPCB. On land availability, the Company already has 28 hectares of land which can accommodate the 350 MW expansion. Besides, the Company has recently acquired 40,000 sq mtrs of land adjacent to the existing plant for meeting further capacity expansion.

After implementation of this 350 MW plant, the total installed capacity will go up from 156.1 MW to 506.1 MW. All the power generated by the expansion will be sold to GUVNL, which will supply power to various distribution companies in Gujarat.

Gujarat State Energy Generation (GSEG) is a company promoted by Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation Limited (GSPC), Krishak Bharti Co-operative Limited (Kribhco), Gail (India) Limited and other Gujarat State sector entities. GSPC is the main promoter, which is in the business of exploration and production of gas and oil.
