Medha Patkar stages dharna in support of oustees
Hyderabad, Oct 4 (UNI) National Alliance for People's Movement (NAPM) convener Medha Patkar today led a dharna by people displaced by the development projects in the city.
As the noted social activist expressed solidarity with over 700 families evacuated from their houses by the Revenue Department since 1997, the affected people raised slogans ''don't remove poor from cities on the pretext of implementing the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission.'' Referring to the Musi Beautification project taken up by the Congress Government, she claimed that nearly 265 families were forced to live in pavements as they were not provided the promised houses.
