IPU On Human Security - Purandareswari To Attend

New Delhi, Oct 4 (UNI) Parliament's oversight of foreign aid policy will figure at the 117th Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly to be attended by India's Minister of State for Human Resource Development D Purandareswari at Geneva, Switzerland from tomorrow, it was announced today.

The six-day meet will also dwell on issues of human security, national security, individual freedom, averting threats to democracy, worker migration, people trafficking, xenophobia and human rights, the announcement said.

The Indian Minister, who is in charge of Higher Education, will head a six-member delegation including five other members of Parliament.

They are K Rahman Khan and Lalit Mohan Suklabaidya of Congress, Charanjit Singh Atwal of Shiromani Akali Dal, Su Thirunavukkarasar of Bharatiya Janata Party and Bhartruhari Mahtab of Biju Janata Dal.

With more than 140 Parliaments as its members, IPU sees itself as a focal point for worldwide parliamentary dialogue aimed at peace and cooperation among peoples and firm establishment of representative democracy the world over.
