Hisar overall winner in Haryana Games

Sirsa, Oct 4 (UNI) Hisar claimed the overall trophy with 15 points in the three-day XXI Haryana State Games here today.

Hisar won the basketball, shooting and football team titles.

Sonepat and hosts Sirsa jointly received the runners-up trophy with 11 points apiece. The fourth position went to Bhiwani with 10 points and Panipat secured eight points for the fifth spot.

The Punjab Information Minister Vikramjit Singh Majithia, Punjab Sports Minister Gulzar Singh Ranike, Member Parliament Ajay Singh Chautala, Haryana Olympic Association president Abhey Singh Chautala, HOA General Secretary former Haryana Director General of Police Mahinder Singh Malik, JDCV Director General Dr Kuldip Singh Dhindsa, Indian Olympic Association representative Gurbir Singh Sandhu were present on the occasion at the Jan Nayak Ch Devi Lal Vidyapeeth here.

Speaking on the occasion, chief guest Punjab Information Minister Vikramjit Singh Majithia praised the Chautala family for giving importance to sports and also for understanding importance of sports in character building of the nation.

He cited the close affinity between between Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and Ch Devi Lal's families.

Quoting Punjab Sports Minister Gulzar Singh Ranike, Mr Majithia said that the Punjab Government was also following the sports policy initiated and implemented by the Chautala Government when it was in power on giving cash incentives to the outstanding sportspersons.

The Punjab Government would also give cash award of Rs one crore to the gold medal winner in the Olympic Games. Similarly, the silver and bronze medallists of the Olympics would be given Rs 50 and Rs 25 lakh respectively.

Mr Majithia announced financial assistance of Rs three lakh on his behalf and the same amount on behalf of Sports Minister Ranike for providing organising the State Games without any financial, technical or equipment assistance from the state government. Ajay Chautala announced a grant of Rs 21 lakh to the HOA to purchase sports equipment.

''If required more, I will extend full support to the HOA,'' he said.
