Jaipur, Oct 4 (UNI) After launching of jail bharo campaign at district level on Tuesday, the Gujjar Reservation Action Committee has expanded second phase of its agitation to sub-divisional level today.
The group of Gujjars demanding ST status for the community, gathered at the tehsil headquarters in various sub-divisions to hold demonstration and court arrest.
In Jaipur district, the demonstrators gathered at Chaksu and other tehsil headquarters, held meetings and courted arrest.
The agitation was peaceful and no untoward incident was reported from anywhere, the police said.
Over 56,000 of Gujjar activists who courted arrest on October 2 on call from the action committee, were still lodged in various jails and special camp jails in different districts.
While action committee Convenor Dr Kirodi Singh Bainsla is lodged in Bharatpur's Sewar Jail, sitting Congress MP Sachin Pilot is lodged in Jaipur Central Jail, rebel BJP MLA Prahlad Gunjan is arrested in the Kota Jail.
The jail Gujjar leaders had refused to avail bail for their relase and Home Minister Gulab Chand Kataria has said that the government would not release Gujjars without bail.
Mr Kataria said that 58150 Gujjars had courted arrest on Tuesday of them around 2000 had already been released on bail.
