Five-day NBT Book Fair begins

Agartala, Oct 4 (UNI) As part of its Golden Jubilee Celebrations, the National Book Trust (NBT) has organised a five-day Tripura Book Fair at Manu Bazar in South Tripura district from today.

NBT Book Fair Coordinator Manas Ranjan Mahapatra said here that 20 such fairs would be organised throughout the country this year.

Inauguratng the fair at the Manu High School ground, Tripura Governor D N Sahaya said there was an urgent need to promote the reading of books in small towns and semi-urban locations as well as strengthen nationalism by organising cultural, literary and educational events in the border areas.

Mr Mahapatra said three book fairs would be organised this year in the Northeast, besides Manu Bazar, and two other fairs would be held next year at Mangaldoi in Assam and Tura in Meghalaya.

The event, taking place for the first time in the state, would organise entertaining and educative workshops every day on book reviews, scientific treatises and seminars.

About 50 publishers from various parts of the country will participate in the fair, he added.
