Corporator demands security in BMC schools

Mumbai, Oct 4 (UNI) Congress corporator from Mahim, Meena Desai today demanded security in all the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) run schools all over the city after a local resident committed suicide during school hours in a BMC school.

Gazia Banu Mohammed Farooq Shaikh, a local resident form Dharavi, committed suicide in the New Mahim Secondary BMC school at around 1100 hrs yesterday, by hanging herself in a school toilet with a towel. The teachers and students were stunned to know about it.

Ms Desai wanted to speak about the issue in the BMC House today but could not do so as the opposition had walked out from the House over a proposal.

Ms Desai said, ''Anything can happen if such things can take place during school hours and the Corporation should do something about it.'' Desai further added that the Corporation should allocate some money from its budget of Rs 1,200 crore to provide security in the corporation run schools.
