APUWJ condemns police attack on senior scribe

Hyderabad, Oct 4 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Union of Working Journalists (APUWJ) today strongly condemned the high handedness of the police against Nayeem Wajahat, Senior Reporter of Siasat Urdu daily.

According to a press release here, APUWJ President D Somasunder said Nayeem went for covering the Iftar party hosted by the Chief Minister Y S Rajasekahra Reddy at Nizam collage. He was obstructed by the police and beaten black and blue.

Mr Nayeem, who suffered serious injuries, was admitted to a Corporate hospital here.

Demanding that the Government suspend the police officials, who were responsible, Mr Somasunder said the Union would refer the issue to the High Power Committee headed by the Home Minister K Jana Reddy to look into assaults on journalists UNI
