Chennai, Oct 3 (UNI) A nine-year-old girl died and her sister sustained injuries when a van ploughed through a group of students at Panaiyurkuppam fishing hamlet near Neelankarai on the outskirts of the city today.
Police said the accident occurred when a van coming from Chennai to Mamallapuram rammed into a group of students, who were waiting to cross the road.
The deceased was identified as Shobana (9).
While Shobana died on the spot, her sister, Sundari (11), was admitted to a private hospital, from where she was later shifted to the Government General Hospital.
The local fishermen staged a road roko agitation following the accident, the police added.
