Port Blair, Oct 03 (UNI) Shipping, Road Transport and Highways Minister T R Balu today complimented the officers and employees of his Ministry for making constant efforts to improve the use of Hindi and implement the Union government's official language policy.
Presiding over the 9th meeting of Hindi Salahkar Samity of Department of Shipping here, the Minister elaborated that the Hindi letters received by the Department were replied only in Hindi language.
Under section 3(3) of the Official Language Act, 1963, all resolutions, general orders, rules, notifications, administrative and other reports, press releases, tender notices, documents etc.
placed before the Parliament are issued only in bilingual format.
Mr. Balu underlined that in order to encourage officers and employees, his department organizes Hindi competitions during the Hindi fortnight every year and the winners are awarded cash prizes.
The Official Language Implementation Committee constituted under the Chairmanship of Joint Secretary (Administration) monitors and deliberates on ways to promote the use of Hindi.
Highlighting the role being played by the Hindi Advisory Committee in implementing the Official Language Policy, the Minister said that his department has always been making serious efforts to implement the valuable suggestions made by the Committee members.
Mr Balu also agreed to a suggestion to publicise the deliberations of the Advisory Committee through print and electronic media and desired that the Department's in-house magazine on Port developments be published at the earliest.
