Chennai, Oct 3 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Government has planned to setup mobile library for Corporation Schools to encourage reading habits among students.
Participating in the inaugural function of the upgraded library of Madras University here recently, School Education Minister Thangam Thennarasu said as part of the programme a mobile library would be launched for ten Corporation Schools in North Chennai. This library would have more than 3,000 books and computer and educational CDs to screen programmes for the children, he added.
He said that the public library system in the state had one central library, 32 district and 1,640 branch libraries.
Mr Thennarasu pointed out that the State Government was planning to setup 12,400 rural libraries, within five years, under 'Anaithu Grama Anna Marumalarchi Thittam' scheme to benefit the rural population.
Explaining about the Rs 100 crore digital library in the city, he said, the project to construct the nine-storeyed library would be completed within 18 months.
