Churchill routs MPT 6-0, Odafe strikes hat-trick

Panaji, Oct 3 (UNI) Four goals by Odafe Okolie, including a hat- trick, guided Churchill Brothers to crush Mormugao Port Trust (MPT) 6-0 and gain full points in the Vodafone GFA's Professional Football League championship match, played at Tilak Maidan, Vasco Da Gama in South Goa.

Reigning champions Sporting Club de Goa edged out Vasco Sports 2-1 and maintained its position in another match played at Duler ground, Mapusa in North Goa.

Churchill had an upper hand right from the start of the game and took the lead early in the 7th minute through Njoh Mbanyan. Odafe increased the lead for Churchill in the 20th minute-and-at-half time, leading 2-0.

Inspired by two goals at the breather, Churchill continued to attack and further consolidated their lead through Mbanyan in the 52nd minute to make it 3-0. After that, Churchill never looked behind and Odafe pumped in three more goals in the 67th, 75th and injury minutes and completed his hat-trick to rout MPT 6-0.

With this win, Churchill moved on to the third spot with 21 points behind table toppers Dempo with 25 points, followed by Sporting Club de Goa with 23 points. Salgaaocar were relegated to 4th place with 20 points.

In another tie at Duler, Sporting moved ahead as early as in the 10th minute of the first half through Cavin Lobo. Vasco's Joy Ferrao restored the parity in the 53rd minute to level the score 1-1.

The victory goal for Sporting came in the 78th minute through Beshweshwar Singh.
