Lucknow, Oct 2 (UNI) Rebel Samajwadi Party leader and Samajwadi Kranti Dal president Beni Prasad Verma today said Congress was the only alternative left to lead the country in the 21st century.
Addressing a rally here to mark the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the rebel SP MP said it was time that the electorate of Uttar Pradesh strengthened the hands of AICC president Sonia Gandhi to lead the country. ''In the near future, only two political parties will survive -- Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party...while BJP is a communal outfit, it is the Congress which will ensure the development of all sections of the society,'' he said.
''Most of the political parties are involved in 'dalali' to make money for themselves...the leaders of such parties only think of themselves and not the masses which they lead,'' he said.
Speaking on the occasion, newly-appointed AICC spokesperson Mohan Prakash said most of the political parties were opposing Congress for its various developmental policies. ''We have faced opposition since 1969 when we approached the then Soviet Union to establish long term relations...even late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi was not spared when he propogated IT and telecom revolutions,'' he said.
Without naming any political outfit, he said Left and Right political parties were trying to to see present day circumstances wearing ''spectacles of the 1950s.'' ''What is happening today is to be seen in today's circumstances,'' he added.
