Srinagar, Oct 2 (UNI) Directing the Industries and Commerce department to further streamline its functioning to boost industrial activities, the Committee on Public Undertakings (PUC) of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly has ordered an inquiry into the allotment of land to a unit in Samba Industrial Estate.
Reviewing the functioning of department the PUC also discussed the CAG's Report for the year.
The Committee issued instructions to Commissioner-Secretaries Industries and Commerce to hold an inquiry in the allotment of land in favour of M/S Dewan Modern Breweries at Samba in Jammu division.
They were asked to submit a detailed report to the committee before the next meeting. Similarly, a status report on Lassipora Industrial Estate would also be submitted before the Committee.
The Committee stressed for maintaining transparency in the allotment of industrial plots so that the genuine people are able to establish their units.
The department should identify more places for industrial sector and explore possibilities to liberalise the industrial policy in the state.
The Committee has asked the officials to ensure maximum employment to local manpower in the industries which are operating in the state.
The departments should take necessary steps to encourage the industrialists of other states, the committee said.
The Commissioner-Secretary Industries and Commerce L D Jha briefed the committee about the steps taken for boosting the industry sector in the state.
He said that with the earnest efforts of the government more and more industrialists are coming from other states to establish their units in the state.
The government has liberalised the industrial policy and very attractive incentives have been announced. For the last couple of years, the industrial sector has picked up considerably, for this the SIDCO which is nodal office for providing infrastructure and other support in establishing the industries is playing pivotal role, Mr Jha informed.
