Shillong, Oct 2 (UNI) Along with the rest of the world, Meghalaya today observed the 138th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, also the first International Non-Violence Day.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh administered the non-violence oath and pro-people governance to the citizens of the state via satellite on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti.
A function was organised here which was attended by state ministers Deborah C Marak, Paul Lyngdoh and Prestone Tynsong, besides senior government officials and school and college students.
Meghalaya Governor Banwari Lal Joshi also paid floral tributes to the memory of Mahatma Gandhi.
Health and Family Welfare Minister Deborah C Marak also released the newsletters of various self-help groups functioning in the state.
