'India of my Dreams' pledge by Delhi CM to officers

New Delhi, Oct 2 (UNI) To mark Gandhi Jayanti and make a new beginning in administrative matters on the birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today administered 'India of my Dreams' pledge to officers and employees of the state government.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said on this momentous day it was gratifying that they all dedicate they services in the service of the nation and its people.

It was Bapu's life-long endeavour to see India of his dreams and this small initiative was a step in that very direction, she added.

The pledge was administered at the Delhi Secretariat in the presence of Industry Minister Mangat Ram Singhal, Delhi Chief Secretary Ramesh Narayanswami and several other principal secretaries and senior officers.

Ms Dikshit also inaugurated a training programme on waste management for rag-pickers at the Gandhi Darshan and distributed aprons, gloves and shoes to children.

The programme, the first of its kind and jointly organised by the state Department of Environment and Forests in association with three NGOs, focussed on the need of health safety of rag-pickers.

''The training programme would go a long way in safeguarding the health of rag-pickers as they are exposed to hazardous waste during rag-picking,'' said the Chief Mnister while adding that it was a matter of satisfaction that the programme was being organised on the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
