Former village panch murdered in Punjab

Phagwara, Oct 2 (UNI) A former panch was allegedly beaten to death by members of a rival group in Shankar village last night, police today said.

The deceased was identified as Raunqui Ram. Personal enmity was said to be the cause of the attack, police said.

The police has arrested one Paramjit Singh alias Pamma of Nawanpind. Two others were identified as Kulbir Singh of Shankar and a migrant labourer Peria of Muzzaffarpur in Bihar were still at large.

The residents of Shankar held a demonstration outside the village police post and demanded arrest of all those involved in the crime.
