DAE invites Tripura students for Mathematics Olympiad

Agartala, Oct 2 (UNI) The Department of Atomic Energy(DAE) has invited students of class ten and twelve in Tripura to participate in the Regional Mathematical Olympiad, 2007.

In an official statement here today, the DAE stated that on the basis of the Regional Olympiads, the national team will be selected to represent the country in the International Mathematical Olympiad to be held in Madrid(Spain) during 2008.

In order to qualify for the olympiad, the students would first have to participate in the Regional Mathematical Olympiad conducted under the auspices of the National Board of Higher Mathematics(NBHM) to be held on October seven. The participants securing sufficiently high ranks will qualify for second step.

They would, then, have to participate in the Indian National Mathematical Olympiad(INMO) to be held on January 20, 2008 at different centres all over the country, the statement said adding that the Regional Coordinators would provide assistance in the form of study material and advice towards preparing for the INMO.

The students securing top 30 ranks at the INMO would be invited for a month-long training camp during April-May 2008, at the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education, Mumbai.

Finally, a team comprising six students will be selected at the camp to represent India at the IMO to be held in July 2008 at Madrid, the statement added.
