By Staff

Kolkata, Oct 2 (UNI) Jose Barreto scored a brace as Mohun Bagan defeated Chirag United 3-0 in the return leg of the Calcutta Premier League here today.

This means Barreto now has one more goal than East bengal's Edmilson, who has scored 10 goals in the CPL so far.

The first-leg match between the two was very close with Bagan winning 4-3. This time, however, the green-maroons had it easy. The first goal came in the 23rd minute when Lalkamal Bhowmick corner reached Barreto off Peter Odafe. the Brazilian slotted home with ease.

Nine minutes later, the Brazilian scored his second through a right-footer.

Lalam Puian increased the margin in the 64th minute placing a right-footer at the far post off a Bhowmick centre. Even in this case, Barreto played a significant role as he created the opening for Puian with his off the ball play.

The goals apart, Bagan had at least another two clear opportunities. In the 38th minute Venkatesh wasted a sitter, while Puian side-netted a volley in the 60th minute.

Bagan coach Carlos Pereira also introduced Sewwram Gobin from Mauritius in the 77th minute. The midfielder operated with speed during his brief stay. Only time will tell whether he fits the bill.
