Colombo, Oct 1 (UNI) The Sri Lanka Cricket today expressed dismay over the reports alleging that top eight Sri Lankan cricketers including skipper Mahela Jayawardene, Muttiah Muralitharan, Sanath Jayasuriya, and Kumar Sangakkara, had signed contracts with the Indian Premier League (IPL).
''We are unaware of anything regarding these reports. As far as we are concerned no Sri Lankan national team player has informed us to this effect,'' a top Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) official said on condition of anonymity this evening.
Angered over these reports the official said that the Sri Lanka Cricket was the only authentic body which could make any announcement with regard to Sri Lankan national cricketers.
''At the moment we are trying to establish contacts with the Indian Premier League officials to seek clarification and to state our current position,'' he said.
The Chairman of the SLC was invited by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to New Delhi a couple of weeks ago mainly to secure the support of the SLC for the IPL.
News reports reaching Colombo from New Delhi had quoted Lalit Modi, the Convenor of the IPL, saying that eight members of the current Sri Lankan squad have already signed with the IPL.
Other Sri Lankan players reported to have singed contract were Lasith Malinga, Dilhara Fernando, Farveez Maharoof and Nuwan Zoysa.
Sri Lanka has already announced that any Sri Lankan players signing contract with the rebel Indian Cricket League (ICL) would be banned to represent Sri Lanka nationally and internationally.
