Chitradurga, Oct 1 (UNI) Police lobbed tear gas shells, after lathicharge found futile, to disperse clashing Congress and JD(S) workers after the election of President and Vice President to Ranganathapura Grama Panchayat in Hiriyur taluk in the District today.
Police said that the trouble started when the Congress workers raised objection over some JD(S) members, who had recently joined Congress before the election, casted votes in favour of JD(S) in the election.
Three Police personnel, including a Sub Inspector, were injured in stone pelting and two police vehicles were damaged.
In all 15 people of both the party were taken into custody.
Situation was stated to be tense but under control.
Senior Police officers visited the village and additional force was rushed from the district.
