Sweden sets up Science, Technology office in New Delhi

Bangalore, Oct 1 (UNI) The Swedish Embassy has set up a Swedish Office of Science and Technology in New Delhi to further strengthen the scientific and technological cooperation between Sweden and India.

Talking to newspersons here today, Swedish Embassy Science and Technology Counsellor Stefan Jonsson said the main task of the new office was to work on the MoU signed between the two governments in 2005.

''The office will facilitate cooperation between major institutions of the two countries on joint research and development, mainly in the areas of information and communication technology (ICT), bio-technology and environmental technologies,'' he said, adding ''a number of activities are already underway in areas such as biosciences and ICT.'' The new office would be part of ITPS (Swedish Institute for Growth Policy Studies) and would serve as a liaison for Swedish governmental agencies such as VINNOVA (Swedish Agency for Innovation Systems), NUTEK (Swedish Business Development Agency) and STEM (Swedish Energy Agency).
