Shiv Sena activists, led by its city chief Rajesh Kshirsagar, former chief Sanjay Pawar gathered at the busy Shivaji Chowk and shouted slogans against the management of a sugar factory for its failure to pay farmers the second instalment of Rs 380 per tonne due to them as per the agreement.

On Saturday, the farmers were agitating against the non-release of the second instalment of Rs 380 per tonne payment for their crop.
After a meeting with the Datta Cooperative Sugar factory management, the agitating farmers, led by Swabhimani Shetkari Sangathana (SSS) leader MLA Raju Shetty, were coming out of the factory premises, located in Shirol tehsil of the district, when a clash occurred between them and police.
In the clash, farmers pelted stones at the police and to bring the situation under control, police resorted to lathi-charge twice and also burst tear gas shells to disperse the mob, in which around 50 persons including Mr Shetty were injured.
Meanwhile, some tehsil towns like Gadinglaj and villages observed bandh today to register their protest against police lathi charge.
A case has been registered with Shirol police against District Additional superintendent of police Shahaji Unap and DySP Suresh Mengade for beating innocent farmers and has demanded a high level inquiry into the incident, Mr Shetty informed.
