New Delhi, Oct 1 (UNI) The Supreme Court today warned the ruling DMK in Tamil Nadu of serious consequences in case it failed to implement the court's order restraining it from going ahead with the statewide bandh call over the Sethusamudram issue.

A Bench of Justices B N Agarwal and P Sathasivam issued the warning after the AIADMK counsel informed that the bandh was on despite the apex court's yesterday's order.

Taking serious note of disobedience of its order, the court said ''it amounted to nothing but contempt of court.'' The court said going ahead with the bandh call amounted to complete breakdown of constitutional machinery in Tamil Nadu and the UPA government at the Centre should not shy away from imposing President's Rule in the state.
