RSP achieves all time best production

Bhubaneswar, Oct 1 (UNI) Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP), a unit of Steel Authority of India Ltd, has registered the best first-half production since inception from April to September this year.

The steel plant achieved an all time best production level for any September month in major production department such as hot metal output of 1,84,546 tonne, total crude steel production of 1,75,091 tonne and total saleable steel production of 1,67,795 tonne.

The best ever was achieved in the production of Total Hot Rolled Coils at 1,32,983 tonne, Hot Rolled Coils for sale at 60,519 tonne, Plates (from Plate Mill) at 41,311 tonne and Hot Rolled Plates at 26,363 tonne.

Incidentally, the production in each of these areas was more than 100 per cent of the targets envisaged in the annual performance plan for September.

The steel plant dispatched 1,77,211 tonne of steel, which was higher by more than six per cent compared to September 2006. RSP sources said with the objective of improving its profitability, the plant had adopted the strategy of maximising capacity utilisation to bring down its production cost.
