Police lobs tear gas shells to quell mob fury
Chitradurga, Oct 1 (UNI) Police lobbed tear gas shells, after lathi charge failed to disperse the Congress and JD(S) workers who clashed after the election of President and Vice President to Ranganathapura Grama Panchayat in Hiriyur taluk in the District today.
Police said the trouble started when the Congress workers raised objection over some JD(S) members, who had recently joined the Congress before the election, cast their votes in favour of JD(S) in the election.
Three policemen, including a Sub Inspector, were injured in stone pelting and two police vehicles were damaged.
In all 15 people from both the parties were taken into custody.
Situation was stated to be tense but under control.
