Kolkata, Oct 1 (UNI) The CPI(M) today asked the Congress-led UPA Government not to proceed on the next steps to operationalise the Indo-US civil nuclear deal unless the issue was resolved in Parliament and the UPA-Left joint committee meeting.

''The UPA Government should not proceed further on the next steps regarding the nuclear deal till it can be discussed in the Winter session of Parliament. The subject is also still to be discussed in the UPA-Left joint committee meeting to be held on October five and 14,'' party General Secretary Prakash Karat said at the end of the three-day Central Committee meeting.

The Central Committee heard a report from the Polit Bureau on the developments pertaining to the nuke deal and reiterated the stand, adopted by it in its August 22-23 meeting, which asked the Government not to take the next step by negotiating the text of a safeguards agreement with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

The meeting was of the view that the UPA-Left committee on the nuclear issue was examining various aspects of the Hyde Act and its implications for foreign policy and security-related matters.

Mr Karat said the Polit Bureau, authorised by the Central Committee to take 'appropriate measures', would act only after watching what the Congress did.

''The measures that we will take depends upon what the Congress tells us,'' he said.
