Kolkata, Oct 1 (UNI) CPI(M) General Secretary Prakash Karat today condemned the Empowered Group of Ministers' (EGoM) decision to accept the Reliance company's proposal of hiking gas pricing on Krishna-Godavari basin, saying it would adversely affect the interest of the farmers and the common people.
Talking to newspersons here, Mr Karat said, '' Earlier the EGoM has contracted with the Reliance company for 2.34 dollar per unit but after holding the contract for two years, the Reliance company is now claiming 4.33 dollar per unit''.
Later, the EGoM had decided that the price would be 4.2 dollar per unit, only a little less from the Reliance claim, he said, adding this was against the original price, contracted with them at the beginning and in this juncture the Reliance company would earn huge profit, thereby adversely affecting the power and fertiliser industries.
He also said Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y Rajshekhar Reddy had earlier urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh not to accept the latest price of the Reliance company.
He added the Congress-led UPA Government at the Centre would be held accountable for this decision, which would adversely affect the interests of the farmers and the common people.
