Gandhiji's teachings more relevant then before : J&K CM

Srinagar, Oct 1 (UNI) Paying glowing tributes to father of nation Mahatma Gandhi, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad said at a time when tension and violence were on the rise in different parts of the globe, his teachings were more relevant than before to meet this challenge.

In a message, the Chief Minister described Gandhiji as apostle of peace who led the country in the freedom struggle with the principle of non-violence.

He said his contribution to world peace has received recognition at the highest level with the United Nations observing Gandhi Jayanti from this year as the International Non-Violence Day.

Mr Azad said that the honour bestowed on Gandhiji by UN showed that the entire world community recognises the relevance of his philosophy of non-violence in the present times.

The Chief Minister said that the best tribute we could pay to Gandhiji was to inculcate his teachings and promote his philosophy of truth, ahimsa and non-violence.

He especially called upon the youth to take guidance from Gandhiji's life and serve the country and its people to the best of their ability.
