DPA fast amounts to contempt of court: Jaya
Chennai, Sep 30 (UNI) AIADMK General Secretary J Jayalalithaa today said the fast announced by the ruling DMK-led DPA tomorrow in the wake of the Supreme Court order staying their bandh, amounted to contempt of court and showed that Chief Minister M Karunanidhi had failed to respect the Constitution.
In a statement here, she said the Chief Minister, after realising that the apex court's order went against him, announced the fast, which was a clear case of contempt of Supreme Court.
Ms Jayalalithaa said the fast also clearly indicated that the DMK leader had no clout with the Congress-led UPA Government at the Centre, in which the DMK was a key constituent.
The Opposition could observe a fast against the Centre on some issues, but it was a mockery that the DMK, being a constituent of the Congress-led UPA, was staging a fast against it, she said.
Accusing Mr Karunanidhi of ''acting against the interests of the people, the Constitution and showing disrespect to the Supreme Court,'' Ms Jayalalithaa reiterated her demand that the Centre dismiss the DMK Government.
